Lake Macquarie Music Society Presents GREAT CLASSICS by the Lake Macquarie Philharmonic Orchestra
Date & time: Sunday November 5th, 2023, at 2pm
Venue: Warners Bay Theatre, Lake Street.
We welcome Dr Steven Stanke as conductor in a program of fine music:
- Impresario Overture – Mozart
- Pelleas & Melisand – Sibelius
- Symphony No 3 Eroica – Beethoven
Mozart’s Overture to The Impresario, Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony, and a special treat: Pelleas & Melisand by Sibelius. Originally incidental music for a play written by Belgian Maurice Maeterlinck, Dr Stanke will present a Suite of 8 movements with narrative. It is a medieval setting of tragic love & loss.
Beethoven’s Symphony No 3 in E flat major opus 55 was first played in 1805 in Vienna. The title Eroica may refer originally to Napoleon, and later withdrawn. It is dedicated to Beethoven’s patron Prince Franz Joseph.
The scope & style is larger than previous works heralding Beethoven’s further influence in the Romantic ideals. Not music for light entertainment but a work depicting life, its triumphs and tragedies, heroic deeds, the expression of the human condition.
Lake Macquarie Philharmonic is proud to present this excellent program to its patrons. Book early as seating is limited in this venue.
